Nanna says, please don't feed ducks bread

Taking my grandlittle for a walk we decided to visit the local duck pond.

We didn't have bread, but stopped at the local DIY shop in Caversham (Milestone Way shops) and bought some wild bird seed - 80 pence.
The ducks loved it so much that the family also visiting the duck pond with bread were abandoned immediately (sorry!!).
We were hosts to at least 30 ducks and were also being watched by the local wild birds who would, no doubt, have picked on the remains (if they were lucky)! Little was fascinated by the gathering.
Having done a little reading, I'm not the only one who is ditching the bread. The Canal and River Trust have campaigned for the same thing.
A paper recently reported "People in England and Wales feed an estimated... six million loaves of bread a year to ducks, which can cause damage to birds’ health and pollute waterways"
The duck pond we visited also has a problem with rats, another bi-product of bread feedings.
Nanna of little kindly asks - be kind to ducks, stop feeding them junk food and give your littles a better feeding show. Support local and find a little shop somewhere that will sell you a small bag of bird food.
Ducks should be fed well. It's a good lesson for all littles everywhere.
