The things that live in my change bag (and thank god they do)

When I first had my little I pretty much took the kitchen sink out with me. My first outings were so nerve wracking I packed the night before with supervision. And double checked.

Now it's a different story.

Every so often i'll empty my change bag and re-pack it. Mostly when I'm out and about and several times I can't find what I know is in there, so it needs a re-shuffle.

Here's my list of "thank god" items which exist in my bag

  1. TOYS - It's inevitable, you go out with just your bag. Even if you are going for just five minutes, you have no idea what could delay you. Toot Toot vehicles usually save me, but then they are also the very thing which sing from the depth of my bag in a quiet lift or cafe.

  2. NAPPIES AND WIPES - goes without saying. You only need to forget this once to know what an utter, utter mistake it was to forget

  3. SPARE OUTFIT(S). A poonami can hit you by surprise, and leave you totally bewildered. I like all in one outfits, just for this occasion. My husband and I joke if we go out for an occasion or a big day and he ends up a certain romper or his pyjamas, it's been a bad day.

  4. BREADSTICKS AND SATSUMAS - Small, compact, easy to transport. These are the catnip of baby world. My little will never say no to either, even if full, even if desperately ill.

  5. WATER - Always. British weather can sneak up on you

  6. SUNCREAM AND A HAT - For the same reason as 5

  7. PARACETAMOL - For me. Nothing worse than trying to battle a toddler group when even bang feels like a hammer on your head.

  8. MILK - For little babies, I never left home without a carton of milk and a sterlie bottle, or the whole shebang of powder, flask and sterilised bottle as well as a tub to ask someone kind for icey water to cool it down. My little has passed this phase, but a beaker and a carton of milk often come with us, just in case.

  9. SONGS - Either a CD if you are going out in the car or a handy to have playlist on your iPhones. Has made for many a happy walk home, sit in the park or distraction from meltdown

  10. THE RAPIDLY DEPLETING ITEMS I NEED - How i used to carry around handbag I don't know. I've whittled my needs down into four things, bank card, ID, phone and house keys. That's it. Purse is now history and a plaything.
